I was definitely not a fan of HTDW’s music upon first listen. I did not think the lo-fi aesthetic worked with the atmospheric, RnB-esque music he was trying to make. This song is good though and I’ve warmed up slightly to his music. I still think the lo-fi recordings take away from what this music could be and I really hope he aims for higher production value on future releases. though

Exact Change

I used to really like the idea of using ‘Exact Change’ as a type of brand. Well, back in high school when I first had the idea, I checked online to see if anyone had used it and I was disappointed to find that someone had used the monicker for an avant-garde book publishing company.

Years later, I got into the band Galaxie 500 when their albums were rereleased. They’ve inspired a ton of the bands I listen to now.

Tonight, I was listening to their song ‘Ceremony’ and I looked them up on Wikipedia to see if the track is a Joy Division cover (it is.) What I also found was that Dean Krukowski and Naomi Yang, of Galaxie 500, are the ones who founded the Exact Change press.

Life is weird.
